    István Lajkó (piano)

István Lajkó took a diploma with merits from the piano department of the Liszt Academy of Music in 2007. He was the student of Sándor Falvai and Balázs Szokolay. In the same year, he won admission to the Doctoral School of the conservatory, where his tutor was Rita Wagner. He acquired his doctorate in music in 2014. He has taken podium places at many Hungarian and international competitions, for example, he won the grand prix, first prize and two special prizes at the International Liszt-Bartók-Ligeti Piano Competition organized in Sofia. In 2008, he was chosen as soloist for the New Masters on Tour concert series of the International Holland Music Sessions, and in 2010 he collected the Junior Príma Prize. He has been a guest artist in several European countries plus China and the US. He has made appearances at the Hummel Festival, Bratislava, the Ostrava Janáček Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival and the Chopin Festival organized in Pristina.

For this recital, István Lajkó unveils several rarely heard masterworks by 19th and 20th century Russian composers. Shostakovich’s ground-breaking preludes and fugues as well as Nikolai Medtner’s character pieces fit happily alongside the Romanticism of Balakirev and Tchaikovsky.

Modest Mussorgsky BORIS GODUNOV Opera in four acts with a prologue, in Russian, with Hungarian, English, and Russian subtitles

In each of their creative musical statements, the female performers who formed the group in Bamako ten years ago have spoken out for women's rights and the eradication of violence. Their rich, melodic music combines stylistic elements of pan-African traditions and contemporary pop songs.
