HIPERKARMA is undoubtedly one of the most influential alternative bands of our time in Hungary, known both for its poetic lyrics and its ability to constantly reinvent itself.
Led by Róbert Bérczesi, the band has been active for more than 25 years, during which it has gone through many highs and lows, as well as several lineup changes. Yet, thanks to its focus on lyrics, it has remained unique on the Hungarian music scene. Robi’s songs openly explore our deepest anxieties, life’s most pressing questions, and the struggle with our own inner demons.
Their debut album, hiperkarma, released in 2000, was repeatedly cited as one of the most important Hungarian records of the decade. Three years later came Amondó, which, if possible, surpassed even its predecessor’s success. This was followed by a more than ten-year hiatus, during which Robi’s withdrawal from the public and his gradual rediscovery of his voice can clearly be traced in the band’s music.
After the break, the band returned in 2014 with their third studio album, Konyharegény, followed three years later by Délibáb, and in 2019 by A Napsütötte Rész. The latter marked a turning point in HIPERKARMA’s musical tone, and its title track earned Róbert Bérczesi the Artisjus Award in 2019 for its outstanding lyrics.
