But it was also under the spell of classicism, or more precisely under the influence of the Salzburg master, that Schubert composed Symphony No. 5. The composer wrote in his diary: "Oh, Mozart, immortal Mozart! What seeds of a brighter, more beautiful life have you planted in our souls!"
