This programme built on thousands of years of the Persian musical tradition showcases this rich influence through the playing of virtuoso artists. At the core of the concert is the Canadian ensemble Constantinople, for whom this will be their first visit to Hungary since their inception in the late ’90s. With numerous excellent records to their name, they are led by Iranian-born Kiya Tabassian, a master of the setar, a three-string plucked Persian instrument. Joining him and Constantinople drummer Hamin Honari will be two of the ensemble’s frequent guest musicians for this evening Five-time Grammy nominee Kayhan Kalhor once performed for a packed house at Müpa Budapest. He is a virtuoso of the Persian stringed instrument known as the kamancheh, while Hadi Hosseini sings Persian songs. What we can expect to hear is an exciting musical dialogue rarely heard in Hungary.
