    Current events

On 1st August 1798, the French navy fleet anchored off the coast of Egypt, and Admiral Nelson was lucky enough to deal a devastating blow to the French. Two years later Admiral Nelson visited Haydn, when a mass was performed in his honour. The piece in D minor, with its very special instrumentation, was then “named” after the admiral.

Over a decade later, in 1811, Beethoven’s fifth and final piano concerto was premiered. Beethoven himself never played this work in public, but ‘Piano Concerto No. 5’ was later performed by artists such as Czerny, Mendelssohn and Franz Liszt. This concert will feature this extremely virtuosic and complex concerto with a solo by Gábor Farkas.
