Patricia Kopatchinskaja: new work (commissioned by ECHO) - world premiere

Schumann: Theme and Variations in E-flat major (‘Geistervariationen'), WoO 24

Liszt: Piano Sonata in B minor

As a member of the Vienna Boys Choir, the young Austrian pianist Lukas Sternath got the chance to travel the world. After training in his home country, he is now studying with Igor Levit, who himself had the opportunity to introduce himself as a rising star eleven years ago. He won a convincing victory at the prestigious ARD competition in 2022, shortly after taking the top prize at four other major competitions. His concert schedule has been packed ever since. The programme for his Rising Stars concert includes, in addition to Schumann's intimate final piano piece, the Liszt sonata, considered to be the pinnacle of the Romantic repertoire, and, as the new composition to be premiered, a work by Patricia Kopatchinskaja, hitherto known primarily as a violinist.
