In 2025, the Kisfaludy Tourism and Development Programme launched a call for applications to promote Hungarian Gypsy music in cafés and restaurants. Musical Hungary embraces the tradition of Gypsy performing arts – one that has become an important element of Hungarian cultural identity over the past two hundred and fifty years. Ferenc Liszt was interested and inspired by Gypsy music throughout his life, and Béla Bartók’s folk song collecting trips gave him the opportunity to meet excellent Gypsy musicians. The Liszt Fest presents a concert featuring the four best Gypsy band leaders of the Kisfaludy Programme and a one-off band of select musicians.
