    The late ’70s saw tremendous enthusiasm brewing over the appearance in cinemas of a new – and quintessentially Hungarian – genre: the ‘Goulash Western’, with films like The Wind Blows Under Your Feet and Wrong-Doers. Despite winning critical acclaim for them, however, director György Szomjas decided to take a completely different approach for his 1981 film.  more

    It would be convenient to label the films he went on to make over the next decade as ‘socios’, except the word doesn’t really mean anything. Nevertheless, starting with Bald Dog Rock, Szomjas did once again invent his own cinematic language. They relate seemingly real, everyday stories unfolding in real (generally dilapidated) settings. In addition, he would also include well-known figures as actors in his films. But no one should make the mistake of thinking that the protagonists of Bald Dog Rock are popular musicians. This story is about us. And in the meantime, the band plays on...

    The screening, as well as the discussions before and after it will be conducted in Hungarian.
