Openness and attention to detail are the hallmarks of the Austrian cellist Valerie Fritz’s musical philosophy, whether we are talking gut strings or electronic instruments, early music or contemporary works. She believes that the way to communicate effectively with the audience is through carefully compiled programmes and original concert formats. She is a committed chamber musician, a member of the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize-winning NAMES ensemble, and regularly appears with Camerata Salzburg. In concert, she shares her passion for new music with her listeners as she improvises along to Bach excerpts in the company of Goran Stevanovich, an accordian player considered a “true wizard”, while we will also hear pieces by Eötvös, Gubaidulina and the Polish Mikołaj Majkusiak, in addition to a world première from the Irish composer Jennifer Walshe, who likes to experiment with the human voice.
