Lee Durrell assisted her husband, the renowned Gerald Durrell to make Jersey Zoo a world class institution and together they co-authored several books. Lee actively participated in the species conversation project aiming to protect the Angonoka or ploughshare tortoise in Madagascar. While in 1986 there were only 400 of these tortoises, without their efforts this species could likely have become extinct by now.

After the death of her husband, as patron of the beloved and respected Jersey Zoo, Lee has been presenting talks not only to scientific audience but also to the public as well, emphasising the importance of the protection of the environment, the process of species conservation and the role zoos play in it.

The Jane Goodall Institute Hungary welcomes everyone to the talk of Dr Lee Durrell and the discussion following it on the 22nd September.

The language of the talk will be English. Interpretation will be available for those purchasing translation tickets. "
